MCCB with ETU850 — 630 A, 187 kA at 240 V
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5KP32-0DA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for continuous current of 630 A at 40 °C, with a maximum breaking capacity of 187 kA at 240 V AC. It carries the ETU850 electronic trip unit, which provides adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves — useful for coordinating with downstream feeders on a distribution board or a large motor branch circuit. The 187 kA interrupting rating at 240 V means it can clear a fault at that level without upstream fuses or a current-limiting reactor; at 415 V the rating drops to 121 kA, still high enough for most industrial service-entrance or main-switchboard positions.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The breaker is rated 630 A at 40 °C ambient; above that, derate progressively — 600 A at 45 °C, 570 A at 50 °C, down to 450 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs 50 °C, the usable current is 570 A, not the nameplate 630 A. The case measures 138 mm wide, 248 mm high, 110 mm deep — fits a standard MCCB mounting footprint in a switchboard or enclosure. Power dissipation at full load is 164.5 W; plan ventilation or spacing to keep the internal temperature rise within the derating curve.
Built-in undervoltage release and communication
The breaker includes an undervoltage release (UVR) that trips the mechanism when supply voltage drops below a set threshold — a common requirement for motor feeder protection or emergency-stop chains that need to drop out on loss of control power. It also has a communication function (likely PROFIBUS or PROFINET via a communication module), enabling remote monitoring of trip status, load current, and event logs. The latching endurance is rated at 15,000 operations — mechanical life for the switching mechanism under no-load or low-load conditions.
