What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2463-5KP32-0DL0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 630 A continuous current (Iu) with a 3-pole configuration, designed for line protection in distribution panels and motor control centers. Its ETU850 electronic trip unit provides adjustable protection curves and communication capability, making it suitable for selective coordination in industrial power systems where fault discrimination is critical. Breaking capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415/440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — figures that define the maximum fault current it can safely interrupt without upstream damage.
Current derating and thermal limits
The 630 A rating holds at 40 °C ambient; above that, derate linearly: 600 A at 45 °C, 570 A at 50 °C, 540 A at 55 °C, 510 A at 60 °C, 480 A at 65 °C, and 450 A at 70 °C. In a warm enclosure, the effective continuous current drops — size the breaker for the actual ambient, not the nameplate. Maximum power loss is 164.5 W, which contributes to enclosure heat load. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
Auxiliaries and integration
This MCCB includes an undervoltage release (UVR) and auxiliary contacts: 2 auxiliary switches + 1 trip alarm switch + 1 electrical alarm switch (HQ). The basic switch is 3VA2463-5KP32-0AA0; the integrated auxiliary trip is 3VA9608-0BB25. Dimensions are 138 mm wide, 248 mm high, and 110 mm deep — fits standard SENTRON 3VA panel cutouts and busbar systems. The trip indicator is present, and the unit supports communication functions for remote monitoring. Mechanical endurance is rated at 15 000 operations (latching). No phase failure detection or ground fault monitoring is built in; those functions require external modules.
