What this MCCB carries — and what it means for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5KP32-0HL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous at 40 °C, with a rated insulation voltage of 800 V. The headline breaking capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, tapering to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — so the SCCR you need for a 480 V distribution board is comfortably covered, and the 690 V figure still handles most motor-circuit fault levels. The ETU850 electronic trip unit handles the protection curve; a shunt trip (STL) is integrated for remote opening. Communication function is built in, and the auxiliary contact block carries 2 auxiliary switches plus a trip alarm and an electrical alarm switch — enough for status feedback to a PLC without an external interface module.
Thermal derating — the real-world current you can count on
The 630 A rating is at 40 °C ambient. At 45 °C it's 600 A; at 50 °C, 570 A; at 55 °C, 540 A; at 60 °C, 510 A; at 65 °C, 480 A; and at 70 °C, 450 A. If your panel internal ambient runs hot — say 50 °C in a sealed enclosure — this breaker still delivers 570 A continuous, which is the figure to use for your load schedule, not the 40 °C number.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. The 138 mm width is standard for a 3-pole MCCB in this class — it fits the common panel cutout and busbar spacing. Mounting is screw-fixed to a backplate or DIN-rail adapter; the 110 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-connected busbars or cable ladders.
Operating environment and approvals
Rated for operation from -25 °C to 70 °C ambient, with storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power dissipation is 162 W — factor that into your enclosure thermal calculation. The ETU850 release is electronic, so no phase-failure detection is built in; if you need that, it's handled upstream or by the protection relay.
