What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5KP32-0KA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in power distribution. Rated 630 A continuous current at 40 °C, it protects cables and busbars against overload and short circuit in industrial and commercial switchboards.
Breaking capacity — what the voltage table tells you
This MCCB carries a short-circuit breaking capacity of 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. The steep drop above 500 V means you must verify the available fault current at the installation point — at 690 V the breaker is still rated for 9 kA, which covers most secondary distribution but not high-fault main feeders at that voltage.
Thermal derating — the real ampacity
The continuous current rating is temperature-dependent: 630 A at 40 °C, derating to 450 A at 70 °C. The operating ambient range is -25 °C to +70 °C. If the breaker lives inside a hot enclosure near other heat sources, use the 60 °C or 65 °C column — 510 A or 480 A respectively — for the realistic continuous load.
Integrated release and communication
The breaker ships with a shunt trip (STL) release for remote tripping and includes a communication function for integration into a monitored distribution system. The basic switch variant is 3VA2463-5KP32-0AA0. No auxiliary switch or ground-fault monitoring is fitted on this variant.
Panel fit — dimensions
Dimensions: 248 mm height, 138 mm width, 110 mm depth. The width occupies three 45 mm pole pitches on a DIN-rail or mounting plate. Depth clears most 120 mm-deep enclosures; verify gland-plate clearance for the rear terminals.
Power loss and temperature limits
Maximum power loss is 162 W at rated current. Storage temperature range is -40 °C to +80 °C. The operating maximum of 70 °C matches the derating table endpoint — running at 70 °C ambient caps the continuous load at 450 A.
