630 A frame with 85 kA interrupting capacity — what that means for your line
The 3VA2463-6HL42-0KB0 is a Siemens 3VA2 IEC frame 630 molded-case circuit breaker with breaking capacity class H, meaning it can interrupt 85 kA at 415 V AC. That rating places it squarely in high-fault-current applications — think large motor control centers, transformer secondaries, or main feeders in industrial switchgear where available fault current exceeds 50 kA. The 4-pole construction with adjustable neutral protection (OFF, 50%, 100%) suits it for TN-S or TT systems where the neutral needs its own overload and short-circuit element.
ETU320 LI trip unit — the adjustable window
The electronic trip unit is an ETU320 with LI characteristic — long-time (overload) and instantaneous (short-circuit) protection. Overload pickup Ir is adjustable from 250 A to 630 A in steps, so the same breaker frame covers a wide range of cable and transformer ratings without changing the hardware. Short-circuit pickup Ii is settable from 1.5 to 9 times In (630 A), which gives you flexibility to ride through motor inrush or transformer magnetizing current while still clearing a bolted fault fast. The LI curve means no short-time delay stage — if you need selective coordination with downstream breakers, the 3VA2 family offers ETU350 or ETU600 variants with ST delay.
Integrated accessories — shunt trip and aux switches
Factory-fitted with a shunt trip rated 208-277 V AC 50/60 Hz on the left side and two auxiliary switches (HP type). The shunt trip allows remote tripping from an E-stop or PLC output, common in automated lines. The two aux switches provide independent status feedback — one for the open/closed position, the other can be wired into a separate control circuit or SCADA input. The nut keeper kit is included, which prevents the mounting screws from backing out under vibration; a detail that matters on mobile equipment or near large rotating machinery.
Panel integration notes
This is a fixed (non-withdrawable) MCCB for permanent mounting on a DIN rail or direct panel-mount via the included nut keeper kit. The 4-pole 630 A frame occupies roughly 280 mm width on the rail — plan your enclosure fill factor accordingly. The shunt trip terminals are on the left side; aux switches on the right. Wire the shunt trip coil from a separate control transformer or UPS if you need guaranteed trip under voltage sag conditions.
