What this 630 A MCCB delivers
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-6JP32-0JL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous current (Iu) at 40 °C, with an ETU550 electronic trip unit for line protection. Its breaking capacity hits 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 40 kA at 690 V — figures that give you headroom for high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries without cascading upstream. The ETU550 provides adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves, so you can shape selectivity with downstream breakers. That 162 W maximum power loss at full load is the heat you need to vent in the enclosure — factor it into your thermal budget.
Thermal derating and ambient limits
The 630 A rating holds at 40 °C ambient. Above that, derate linearly: 600 A at 45 °C, 570 A at 50 °C, 540 A at 55 °C, 510 A at 60 °C, 480 A at 65 °C, and 450 A at 70 °C. If your panel sits in a hot mezzanine or near a furnace line, use the 50 °C or 60 °C column for your continuous load calculation — don't spec it at 630 A and hope the ambient stays cool. Operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
Auxiliaries and communication
This breaker ships with a shunt trip (STL) release and an auxiliary contact block: 2 auxiliary switches + 1 trip alarm switch + 1 electrical alarm switch HQ. The undervoltage release is not fitted. Communication function is present, so you can integrate status and trip data into a higher-level control system. The base switch is order code 3VA2463-6JP32-0AA0; the auxiliary trip module is 3VA9688-0BL32. Trip indicator and voltage trigger are both included.
Mounting and panel fit
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. It mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via the molded-case footprint. The 138 mm width for a 3-pole 630 A frame is standard for this class — verify your enclosure's gland-plate cutout and busbar spacing against those numbers before committing the panel layout.
