630 A MCCB with ETU550 — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-6JP32-0KL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current Iu of 630 A at 40 °C. That 630 A figure is the baseline; the breaker must be derated as ambient temperature rises — at 50 °C it handles 570 A, at 60 °C it handles 510 A, and at 70 °C it handles 450 A. For a panel that runs warm, the 40 °C rating is the starting point, not the operating limit. The ETU550 electronic trip unit provides adjustable protection curves, and the breaker's interrupting capacity reaches 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V, and 40 kA at 690 V. Those are the maximum fault currents it can safely clear at each voltage level — critical for verifying SCCR compliance upstream of the load. Auxiliary contacts are configured as 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch plus 1 electrical alarm switch HQ. The shunt trip (STL) design allows remote tripping. Communication function is present, and the integrated auxiliary trip is order code 3VA9688-0BL33. No undervoltage release or phase failure detection is fitted on this variant.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, and 110 mm deep. That 110 mm depth is the dimension that matters for enclosure depth clearance — verify the gland plate and door swing allow for it. The breaker mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate; standard SENTRON 3VA footprint. Maximum power loss is 162 W at rated current. That heat must be considered in the enclosure thermal calculation — it's not a trivial dissipation figure for a sealed cabinet. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage limits govern handling and warehousing, not running conditions.
