MCCB for high-fault panels
The Siemens 3VA2463-6JQ32-0AC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous current with a breaking capacity of 242 kA at 240 V. That 242 kA figure means it can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level without cascading upstream — critical for main feeders in high-fault industrial panels. It carries an ETU560 electronic trip unit, which gives adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous protection curves. The 3-pole design is configured for line protection — no undervoltage release, no voltage trigger, no phase failure detection. Communication function is onboard, so it can report status to a BMS or PLC over the plant network.
Current derating and thermal limits
Rated 630 A at 40 °C, but the thermal derating curve is steep: 600 A at 45 °C, 570 A at 50 °C, and down to 450 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs hot, size the breaker on the derated value, not the 630 A headline. The maximum power loss is 162 W — that heat has to be vented inside the enclosure. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The IP40 front protection means it's suitable for clean indoor panels but not washdown environments.
Physical fit and wiring
Dimensions are 248 mm height, 138 mm width, 110 mm depth. The 138 mm width is the standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for this frame size — it fits SENTRON mounting plates and busbar systems without adapters. The auxiliary contact version is 2 auxiliary switches HQ; no trip indicator or undervoltage release is fitted.
