What this MCCB carries and where it fits
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-6JQ32-0HC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 630 A full-scale, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It ships with a shunt trip (STL) and two HQ auxiliary switches, plus a communication function for remote monitoring or integration into a BMS or PLC-based system. Breaking capacity runs 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — that covers most industrial service-entrance and feeder applications where high fault current is expected. The 630 A frame means it handles a 600–700 A transformer secondary or a large motor control center feeder without needing a parallel breaker arrangement. Thermal derating is published across the operating range: 630 A at 40 °C, stepping down to 450 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — say 55 °C inside a non-climate-controlled enclosure — the breaker still delivers 540 A continuous. That derating curve is what you use for the NEC 110.14(B) termination temperature calculation.
Mounting and panel fit
Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That 138 mm width is the standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for the 630 A frame — it drops into the same cutout as other SENTRON 3VA2 three-pole units. The 110 mm depth includes the case body plus the rotary handle mechanism; verify clearance to the enclosure door if a through-door handle is planned.
Trip unit and auxiliary configuration
The electronic trip unit is set for line protection (no undervoltage release fitted). Minimum trip threshold is 945 A; maximum is 5 670 A — that gives a 1.5x to 9x I_n adjustment band for coordinating with downstream breakers. The 126 A initial value is the lowest pickup setting available on the trip unit dial. No trip indicator on the front face; the communication function provides remote status instead. Shunt trip (STL) is factory-installed — no field retrofit needed for remote trip via a safety relay or E-stop circuit. Two HQ auxiliary switches give Form-C feedback for the PLC or panel lamps. The basic switch module is order code 3VA2463-6JQ32-0AA0 if you ever need the bare breaker without auxiliaries.
Environmental limits and power loss
Operating ambient -25 °C to 70 °C; storage -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power dissipation at rated load is 162 W — that heat has to be accounted for in the enclosure thermal calculation, especially if the panel is sealed or has limited ventilation.
