What this MCCB carries and where it fits
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-6KQ42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 630 A at 40 °C, built around the ETU860 electronic trip unit for line protection. Its interrupting capacity hits 242 kA at 240 V and 187 kA at 415/440 V, which means it can handle high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries without cascading upstream. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) suits it for 690 V distribution panels where a single breaker must clear a bolted fault on the secondary side of a step-up transformer. Four poles let it switch three phases plus neutral in a TN-S or TN-C-S system — common in North American 480Y/277 V and European 400/230 V installations. The ETU860 is a communicating trip unit; this breaker carries a communication function for remote trip indication, current metering, and parameter download. Ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on L + N. Power loss maxes at 162 W under full load.
Thermal derating and panel integration
The 630 A rating holds at 40 °C ambient. Above that, the continuous current must be derated: 600 A at 45 °C, 570 A at 50 °C, 540 A at 55 °C, 510 A at 60 °C, 480 A at 65 °C, and 450 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs 50 °C, the breaker can only carry 570 A continuously — size the upstream transformer and downstream bus accordingly. The 248 mm height, 184 mm width, and 110 mm depth fit standard SENTRON 3VA mounting footprints; the IP40 front face keeps dust out of the trip-unit interface but the breaker is not sealed for washdown environments.
