630 A MCCB with 330 kA interrupting rating — what that means for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-7HN32-0DH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a maximum breaking capacity of 330 kA at 240 V AC. That interrupting rating drops to 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — so the voltage class of your distribution system directly governs whether this breaker has headroom for the fault current available. Designed for line protection (cable and busbar feeder duty), it carries an undervoltage release (UVR) and a complement of 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ). The 630 A frame is the rating that determines busbar lug sizing and cable termination — not the interrupting number.
Current derating across the ambient range
The continuous current rating is temperature-dependent: 630 A at 40 °C, derating to 612 A at 45 °C, 593 A at 50 °C, 575 A at 55 °C, 557 A at 60 °C, 538 A at 65 °C, and 520 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs above 40 °C, use the derated figure for sizing — the breaker will not hold its 630 A nameplate at elevated enclosure temperatures. Operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
