630 A MCCB with ETU560 — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens 3VA2463-7JQ32-0AA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous at 40 °C, with an ETU560 electronic trip unit that gives you adjustable time-current curves for selective coordination downstream. Interrupting capacity hits 330 kA at 240 V and 242 kA at 415 V — that's extreme SCCR headroom for high-fault panels feeding motor control centers or transformer secondaries where a standard 65 kA breaker would cascade upstream. tr adjusts from 0.5 to 12 seconds, tsd from 0.05 to 0.5 s.
Thermal derating — the real-world continuous current
The 630 A rating holds at 40 °C ambient. At 50 °C it's 570 A, at 60 °C it's 510 A, at 70 °C it's 450 A. If your enclosure runs hot — say a packed MCC lineup — size the breaker for the actual ambient, not the catalog number. Power loss at full load is 162 W maximum. That's the heat you need to vent through the enclosure; factor it into your thermal budget if the panel is sealed or outdoor-rated. IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm — standard for enclosed mounting on a DIN rail or panel backplate. Not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure without an enclosure.
Dimensions and panel fit
The breaker measures 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That's a 3-pole frame in the SENTRON 3VA2 family — the same footprint as other 630 A 3VA2 variants, so a panel laid out for a 3VA2 630 A will accept this unit without re-drilling. Mounting is standard for the class: screw-fixed to a backplate or DIN-rail adapter. The 110 mm depth leaves room for rear-connected busbars or cable lugs in a typical 600 mm deep enclosure.
