630 A MCCB with ETU850 — what you need to know for the panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-7KP32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous current at 40 °C, using the ETU850 electronic overcurrent release. That ETU850 gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves — it's the programmable tier, not a fixed thermal-magnetic, so you can dial it in for the load without swapping trip units. Line protection design means it's intended for feeder and distribution duty, not motor-starting on its own. The interrupting capacity is substantial: 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415/440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. At 690 V it drops off sharply — that's the limit of the internal arc extinction in this frame size. For most 400 V-class distribution panels, 242 kA IC covers high-fault locations like switchboard mains or large subfeeds without cascading upstream.
Temperature derating is real — here's the curve
The 630 A rating is at 40 °C ambient. At 45 °C it's 600 A; at 50 °C it's 570 A; at 55 °C it's 540 A; at 60 °C it's 510 A; at 65 °C it's 480 A; at 70 °C it's 450 A. That's a 180 A swing from 40 °C to 70 °C. If this breaker lives in a hot switchroom or a crowded panel, size the upstream feed for the derated value at your actual ambient — don't just read the nameplate 630 A.
Panel fit — dimensions and IP
Mounts on a standard DIN rail or panel-mount plate. Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That 110 mm depth (4.33 in) matters for shallow enclosures — check your back-of-door clearance if the breaker is on a swing-panel. IP40 on the front means tools and fingers are kept out, but it's not sealed against hose-down; keep it inside the enclosure.
