630 A MCCB with ETU320 — line protection for high-fault panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-8HL32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 630 A continuous current, configured for line protection with an ETU320 electronic trip unit. It's a current-production part in the SENTRON family, built for main or feeder protection where fault currents can hit 440 kA at 240 V AC.
Breaking capacity and thermal derating — the numbers that matter for fit
Breaking capacity drops as system voltage rises: 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V. That 52.5 kA at 690 V is the figure to check against your transformer secondary or utility service — if your available fault current exceeds that at the breaker line terminals, this frame won't hold. Thermal derating is published per degree from 40 °C upward: 630 A at 40 °C, 612 A at 45 °C, 593 A at 50 °C, 575 A at 55 °C, 557 A at 60 °C, 538 A at 65 °C, 520 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs 55 °C, you lose 55 A of headroom. The ETU320 release handles the overcurrent curve; no undervoltage release, no shunt trip, no communication module on this variant.
Panel fit and environment
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for 630 A frame. Front IP40 protection keeps dust out of the trip-unit interface; the rest of the breaker body is rated for the panel interior. Operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss is 162 W at rated load — factor that into enclosure ventilation if the panel is sealed.
Sourcing and lifecycle
This is a current-production SENTRON 3VA series breaker. It's sourced to order through independent distribution; availability and current pricing are confirmed at quote time against an RFQ. No official successor has been issued — this is the active variant for 630 A line protection with ETU320.
