630 A MCCB with ETU850 — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens 3VA2463-8KP32-0AA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous current at 40 °C, with an ETU850 electronic trip unit designed for line protection. The 630 A frame is the largest in the 3VA2 family, sized for main feeders or large motor branch circuits in industrial switchboards. Breaking capacity is 440 kA at 240 V AC, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V — these figures tell you the breaker can safely interrupt fault currents up to those levels without cascading upstream. For a 480 V panel (common in North America), the 330 kA at 440 V rating is the closest reference; at 600 V class, the 220 kA at 500 V applies. The 690 V rating of 52.5 kA covers European 400/690 V systems. The ETU850 electronic trip unit supports communication, enabling integration with energy management or SCADA systems for remote monitoring and selective coordination. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and maximum power loss is 162 W — factor that into enclosure thermal design.
Temperature derating — don't size by the 40 °C number alone
The 630 A rating holds at 40 °C ambient. At 45 °C it derates to 600 A, at 50 °C to 570 A, at 55 °C to 540 A, at 60 °C to 510 A, at 65 °C to 480 A, and at 70 °C to 450 A (–). If your panel ambient runs above 40 °C — common in enclosed switchgear or near heat sources — use the derated value for the continuous load, not the 630 A nameplate.
Mounting and integration — fits standard panel cutouts
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. The 3-pole frame mounts via four screws to a backplate or DIN-rail adapter (not included). Front IP40 protection means it's suitable for enclosed distribution boards but not washdown environments. No undervoltage release or ground-fault monitoring on this variant.
