630 A MCCB with 440 kA interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-8KP42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current of 630 A at 40 °C and a massive interrupting capacity of 440 kA at 240 V AC — the highest short-circuit rating in the 3VA family, sized for main feeders or large-branch protection in high-fault industrial distribution. Equipped with the ETU850 electronic trip unit, it offers adjustable N-conductor protection (OFF, 20 % to 100 %) and a communication function for integration into a monitored power system — the trip unit settings and breaker status can be read remotely, which saves a panel walk for a commissioning engineer verifying coordination. The 440 kA at 240 V is the headline number, but the real-world selectivity design point is the 330 kA at 415 V and 220 kA at 500 V — those are the values a site electrical engineer uses for the coordination study with upstream and downstream devices.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 630 A rating holds at 40 °C; above that, the breaker derates linearly to 450 A at 70 °C. If the breaker is mounted in a non-ventilated enclosure or alongside other heat sources, the 50 °C or 60 °C row is the one to use for the BOM line — a 570 A or 510 A continuous rating changes the load schedule. Dimensions are 248 mm high, 184 mm wide, 110 mm deep — the 110 mm depth is the critical dimension for panel depth clearance behind the door; the breaker protrudes less than a standard 160 A frame, so it fits retrofit into existing switchgear cubicles that were dimensioned for older SENTRON or 3WL frames. Front protection is IP40 — suitable for a clean indoor panel; no washdown rating, so keep it out of wet areas.
