What this breaker carries and where it fits
The Siemens 3VA2580-5KQ32-0KE0 is a 3-pole IEC frame 1000 molded-case circuit breaker with a 55 kA interrupting capacity at 415 V (breaking capacity class M). It is fitted with an ETU860 electronic trip unit configured for LSIG protection — long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault — with a rated continuous current In of 800 A and an overload protection range Ir adjustable from 320 A to 800 A. The short-circuit protection pickup Isd spans 0.6 to 10× In, and the instantaneous pickup Ii ranges 1.5 to 12× In. Ground-fault protection is switchable, with pickup Ig adjustable from 0.2 to 1× In and time delay tg from 0.05 to 0.8 s. Neutral conductor protection is available optionally via an external current transformer, supporting up to 160% of In. The breaker ships with a shunt trip mounted on the left side, rated 208–277 V AC 50/60 Hz and 220–250 V DC, plus four auxiliary contacts (4 AU).
What the ratings mean for panel coordination
The 55 kA Icu at 415 V sets the maximum fault current the breaker can safely interrupt without upstream cascading — critical for selectivity studies in industrial switchboards where the available fault current at the main distribution panel may exceed 50 kA. The LSIG trip unit gives full four-function protection: long-time for cable thermal overload, short-time for selective coordination with downstream breakers, instantaneous for bolted faults, and ground-fault for equipment protection. The adjustable ground-fault pickup and delay allow the breaker to serve as the main ground-fault protection device in a solidly-grounded system, with the 0.05–0.8 s delay window enabling coordination with downstream GFP devices. The shunt trip on the left side accepts either AC (208–277 V) or DC (220–250 V) control voltage, so it can be wired into an emergency-stop circuit or remote-trip system without an intermediate relay.
