What this 3VA2 breaker delivers on a motor circuit
The Siemens 3VA2580-7MQ32-0DL0 is a 3-pole IEC frame 1000 circuit breaker with a class C breaking capacity of Icu=110kA at 415 V, sized for motor protection via the ETU860M LSIG trip unit. Full-load rating In=800 A with overload protection adjustable Ir=320 A to 800 A, short-circuit protection Isd=1.2 to 15 x In, and ground-fault protection Ig=0.2 to 1 x In with time delay tg=0.05-0.8 s. The LSIG (long-time, short-time, instantaneous, ground) protection profile gives you selectivity coordination downstream and arc-flash energy reduction when paired with a compatible upstream feeder breaker.
The IEC frame 1000 form factor mounts in standard switchgear cubicles or MCC buckets with the 3VA2 footprint. The two changeover auxiliary switches and the trip alarm switch provide status feedback to the PLC or SCADA, while the HQ electrical alarm switch signals a ground-fault event separately. Coordination: the LSIG settings allow time-current curve shaping for selective tripping with downstream feeders. The short-time pickup Isd (1.2 to 15 x In) and ground-fault delay tg (0.05-0.8 s) let you stage protection zones so a fault on a branch motor does not take out the main bus. The instantaneous pickup Ii (3 to 15 x In) covers bolted faults near the breaker terminals.
