The Siemens 3VA4140-5ED34-3AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker from the 3VA4 series, UL Frame 125. It is rated 40 A continuous with a thermal-magnetic TM210 trip unit — overload protection fixed at Ir=40 A, short-circuit pickup at Ii=10 x In (400 A). The breaking capacity is 35 kA at 480 V, class M, which means it can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level on a 480 VAC distribution bus without upstream cascading. The TM210 trip is a fixed thermal-magnetic design: the thermal element tracks RMS heating for overloads, the magnetic element responds instantaneously to short-circuit currents. No adjustable dials on the trip unit — Ir and Ii are factory-set. This simplifies specification for a fixed-load panel but means the breaker is not field-adjustable for changing loads.
Panel integration and mounting
The 3VA4 frame mounts on a DIN rail or can be screw-mounted to a backplate. At 472 x 396 x 213 mm packaged, the breaker itself fits a standard MCCB footprint for panel layouts. Spring-cage or box lug terminals accept copper or aluminum conductors — verify lug torque values per the terminal marking during panel build.
Lifecycle and compliance
RoHS compliant since 13 May 2019. REACH Article 33 disclosure applies: lead (CAS 7439-92-1) above 0.1% w/w in the product. Export control is AL:N / ECCN:EAR99 — no special licensing required for most destinations.
