What it is and where it fits
The Siemens 3VA9177-0TB50 is an active-production SENTRON 24 V module designed as an accessory for the 3VA6 150/250 molded-case switch family. It mounts in the right switch pocket and provides four slots for communication and measurement functions — think of it as the brains interface for the breaker, not a standalone device. Key physical fit: 33 mm deep, 29 mm wide, 63 mm tall. That 29 mm width is the critical dimension for panel layout. It draws a maximum of 0.1 A from the 24 V supply and dissipates 2.4 W. The supply input uses screw-type terminals, and the module tolerates ±20% symmetrical variation on the 24 V control feed.
What it does and doesn't do
This module provides the 24 V power supply and communication interface for the electronic trip unit inside the 3VA6 breaker. It does NOT communicate with motor drives, function modules, or residual-current equipment. It also does NOT detect switch position (On/Off/Tripped) or exchange data with the trip unit directly — it's a power-and-connectivity pass-through, not a full data gateway. Rated protection class IP20 per IEC 60529 — suitable for dry indoor panel environments only. Pollution degree 3 (conductive or dry non-conductive pollution), overvoltage category I, and operating resource protection class III per IEC 61558. Temperature range from -40 °C to 80 °C covers most industrial enclosure conditions.
