What this RCD module does on a 3VA2 line
The Siemens 3VA9223-0RL30 is a load-side-mounted residual current device (RCD820 advanced) designed as an accessory for the 3VA2 molded-case circuit breaker family. It provides Type A residual current protection with a rated operational current of 250 A at 50/60 Hz, covering supply voltages from 100 V to 690 V. The adjustable residual current range spans 0.03 A to 30 A across ten selectable setpoints, and the non-tripping time can be set from 0 ms to 10,000 ms in ten steps. This makes it suitable for applications where nuisance tripping from transient leakage must be avoided — common on motor drives, UPS-fed circuits, or long cable runs with capacitive charging currents. A pre-alarm function triggers at 30% and 60% of the set residual current value, giving maintenance an early warning before the device trips. The module also supports remote-controlled tripping and communication with upstream residual current monitoring equipment.
The module mounts via screw fixing to the busbar connection of the 3VA2 breaker. Infeed can be from the top or bottom of the RCD component, which simplifies busbar routing in a crowded panel. The sealable design allows lockout-tagout compliance for maintenance isolation.
