The Siemens 3VM1163-5EE36-0AA2 is a 3-pole IEC molded-case circuit breaker in the 3VM1 frame 160 series, sized for line protection duty with a TM220 thermal-magnetic trip unit. The 63 A frame rating (In) is adjustable for overload protection from 44 A to 63 A (Ir), with a fixed short-circuit pickup of 10 x In (Ii = 630 A). Breaking capacity is 55 kA at 415 V AC — class M on the IEC 60947-2 scale, meaning it handles high prospective fault currents in industrial distribution without cascading upstream.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 55 kA Icu at 415 V is the key selectivity number. In a panel fed by a transformer with a 50 kA or higher available fault current, this breaker clears a bolted fault at its terminals without rupturing — the class M rating is the middle tier in the 3VM1 family, above standard (S) and below high-performance (H). The adjustable Ir band (44–63 A) lets you match the continuous current to the actual load without swapping the breaker body; set it at 63 A for a full-rated feeder, or dial down to 44 A for a smaller branch where you want the breaker to carry the thermal protection rather than a separate overload relay.
Panel integration note
The 3VM1 frame 160 mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount adapter. Terminal connections are for copper or aluminium conductors; the TM220 trip unit is field-replaceable without removing the breaker from the panel. For a 63 A feeder in a 415 V distribution board, plan for the thermal dissipation of the magnetic trip at full load — the breaker body is ventilated, but adjacent devices need the standard IEC 60947-2 derating spacing.
