1-pole MCCB for line protection — 80 A, 53 kA at 240 V
The Siemens SENTRON 3VM1180-3ED12-0AA0 is a 1-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 80 A continuous at 40 °C, with a TM210 thermal-magnetic release (fixed Ir = 80 A, adjustable Ii = 800 A). It delivers 53 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V AC and 7.5 kA at 415 V AC, making it a fit for high-fault service-entrance or distribution panels where the upstream transformer can deliver heavy short-circuit current.
Thermal derating and operating range
The breaker holds its full 80 A rating from 40 °C up to 50 °C. Above that, it derates gradually: 78 A at 55 °C, 77 A at 60 °C, 75 A at 65 °C, and 74 A at 70 °C. The maximum operating ambient is 70 °C, with storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. That thermal curve matters if the breaker lives in a crowded, poorly ventilated enclosure — plan for the actual panel ambient, not the nameplate.
Mechanical fit and panel integration
At 25.4 mm wide (one standard pole pitch), 130 mm tall, and 70 mm deep, this breaker snaps onto a DIN rail or mounts directly in a distribution panel. The front face carries an IP40 protection class — suitable for dry indoor enclosures but not washdown areas. Rated insulation voltage is 500 V AC; maximum DC operating voltage is 125 V. Power dissipation at rated load is 6.4 W, so factor that into the enclosure thermal budget.
