Commutating choke for converter duty
The Siemens 4EM5000-3CB00 is a 1-phase commutating choke for converter input circuits. It carries a rated current of 23.4 A with a maximum of 26 A at 50 Hz, operating at 230 V AC.
The 23.4 A rated current (26 A maximum) sets the continuous load the choke can handle without saturating or exceeding thermal limits. The 1.1 mH inductance at 50 Hz is sized for typical 230 V single-phase converter inputs in the 5–7 kW range. The IP00 open-frame construction means it must be mounted inside an enclosure with adequate clearance — no touch protection on the choke itself. Screw-type terminals accept standard power wiring.
Thermal class and power loss
Rated for 40 °C ambient with thermal class B insulation (130 °C hot-spot) per IEC 60085. Total power loss splits between the coil (14.4 W) and iron core (27.9 W) at rated load — about 42 W combined, which must be considered in enclosure thermal calculations.
The 4EM5000-3CB00 is designed and tested to EN 61558-2-20, the standard for small transformers and chokes for converter applications. This compliance covers dielectric strength, thermal performance, and short-circuit behavior.
Physical integration
Dimensions are 0.115 m depth, 0.097 m width, 0.111 m height. The open-frame (IP00) design requires panel-mounting inside a grounded enclosure. Screw terminals accept the main circuit wiring.
