PROFINET IRT and MRP redundancy
The Siemens 4EM5011-0AK00 CPU supports PROFINET IRT for deterministic, isochronous real-time communication — critical for motion control and high-speed I/O synchronization. It also functions as an MRP redundancy manager and/or MRP client, with a maximum ring size of 50 devices. MRPD is available when IRT is active, enabling media redundancy for isochronous data. This makes the CPU suitable for ring-topology networks where a single cable break must not drop the line.
Integrated PID control for temperature and valves
Two PID controller variants are built in: PID-Temp with integrated optimization for temperature loops, and for valve actuators. Each controller supports up to 40 probes. This eliminates the need for a separate loop controller on applications like oven zones, autoclaves, or HVAC valve banks — the CPU handles the closed-loop logic directly.
Process image and programming languages
The process image allocates 32 kbyte for inputs and 32 kbyte for outputs — all inputs and outputs are mapped into the image, so no manual remapping is needed for standard I/O. Programming options include LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, and GRAPH, covering ladder, function block, structured text, and sequential control. DCP (Discovery and Configuration Protocol) is supported for network setup.
Communication interfaces and protocols
The CPU communicates via PROFINET at 100 Mbps. MODBUS TCP, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS, SNMP, and LLDP are all supported. DHCP is not enabled — addressing is fixed or configured via DCP. A maximum of 6 communication modules (PROFINET + PROFIBUS) can be inserted in total. I&M data (I&M0 to I&M3) is present for asset identification.
Environmental range and diagnostics
On-board diagnostics include an ERROR LED and a MAINT LED for quick fault indication. The hardware clock maintains timekeeping across power cycles. Dimensions are 35 mm wide, 147 mm high, 129 mm deep — fits standard 35 mm DIN-rail enclosures.
