What it is and what it does
The Siemens 4EM5316-7CB00 is a 1-phase commutating choke (line reactor) designed for converter drive applications. It limits current rise and harmonics on the AC line side of a variable-frequency drive or DC drive converter, rated for 81 A continuous with a 90 A maximum peak capability at 480 V AC, 50 Hz. The 0.34 mH inductance and 2% relative inductive voltage drop (at rated current, voltage, and frequency) define the impedance it inserts into the circuit — enough to smooth commutation notches and reduce reflected-wave stress on the drive's input rectifier.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
The 81 A rated current (I_LN) is the continuous thermal rating at 40 °C ambient. The 90 A maximum (I_thmax) is the short-term overload ceiling. IP00 means it's an open-frame component — no enclosure, no touch protection. It must be mounted inside a panel or cabinet that provides the required ingress protection and clearance to live parts. The flat-type terminals accept bus-bar or cable-lug connections, not spring-cage or screw-clamp wire terminations.
Where it goes in the panel
Mount this choke on the AC input side of the converter, between the line supply and the drive's rectifier. The 0.155 m depth, 0.151 m width, and 0.135 m height define the footprint — verify clearance for the flat-type terminals and air flow for natural convection cooling. No DIN-rail clip; it's a bolt-down component.
