What it is and what it does
The Siemens 4EP3700-5DS00 is a 3-phase commutating choke (line reactor) designed to sit between a converter and the AC mains, smoothing current ripple and limiting fault current rise rates. Rated for 400 V AC at 50 Hz, it carries a continuous rated current of 45 A with a maximum of 50 A — meaning it can handle nominal motor-drive loads up to roughly 22 kW (assuming typical drive efficiency) and still absorb transient spikes without saturating. The 0.28 mH inductance and 2% relative inductive voltage drop are sized for standard 6-pulse rectifier front ends; the 2% drop keeps the DC bus voltage from sagging noticeably under load.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
Thermal class B (130 °C rise over 40 °C ambient) means the choke can run at full rated current in a 40 °C enclosure without exceeding the insulation temperature limit — no forced cooling required in most panel layouts. The total power loss of 62 W (50 W coil + 12 W iron core) is modest; plan for natural convection clearance around the unit. IP00 protection means the choke is open-frame — it relies on the panel enclosure for dust and touch protection. Screw-type terminals accept typical power cable sizes; no special lugs needed.
