Commutating choke for converter duty
The Siemens 4EP3701-4DS00 is a 3-phase commutating choke (also called a line reactor) designed for converter input circuits. It limits current rise and reduces harmonics on the line side of variable-frequency drives and DC drives. Rated for 20 A continuous (22.4 A maximum) at 500 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with a 1.6 mH inductance and a 4 % voltage drop at rated conditions.
The 20 A rated current and 22.4 A maximum define the continuous and peak thermal limits in a converter application — size your drive's line-side current to stay within these to avoid core saturation. The 4 % inductive voltage drop is the impedance at rated current; this determines how much harmonic attenuation and fault-current limiting the choke provides.
Integration notes
Dimensions are 0.178 m wide × 0.153 m high × 0.105 m deep; plan for panel space accordingly. Thermal class B insulation means a 130 °C continuous rating, adequate for most industrial environments up to 40 °C ambient. Total power loss splits between the coil (49 W) and iron core (11 W) — account for 60 W of heat dissipation in the enclosure.
