Commutating choke for converter drives — 3-phase, 500V, 18A
The Siemens 4EP3702-0DS00 is a commutating choke (line reactor) for converter applications, designed to smooth current ripple and limit di/dt on the input side of variable-frequency drives. Rated for 3-phase AC at 500 V operating voltage, it carries a continuous rated current of 18 A, with a maximum of 20 A and a peak rating of 25 A — the peak figure governs short-duration overloads during motor acceleration or regeneration events. The 1.5 mH inductance and 4% relative inductive voltage drop (at rated current, voltage, and frequency) define the impedance the drive sees; that 4% figure is the standard selection parameter for matching choke size to drive kVA. This is an IP00 device — no enclosure protection. It mounts inside a cabinet, typically on a mounting plate or chassis, not on a DIN rail. The screw-type terminals accept power wiring directly; plan for adequate clearance around the 0.178 m wide, 0.153 m tall, 0.105 m deep body for airflow and termination access. Total power loss sums to 64 W (55 W coil + 9 W iron core) at rated conditions, which must be factored into the enclosure's thermal budget.
Integration notes
Mounting is on a flat panel surface via the choke's own foot — no DIN rail clip. The 0.105 m depth means it protrudes less than many equivalent-rated chokes, which helps in shallow enclosures. Screw terminals accept stranded or solid conductors; torque to the manufacturer's specification (not listed here, but standard for M6 or M8 studs on this current class). Keep ferrous materials at least one choke width away to avoid saturating the core and reducing inductance.
