What this output reactor does
The Siemens SIDAC 4EP3800-1AK00 is a 3-phase AC output reactor rated for a maximum continuous current of 17 A and a rated switching frequency of 8 000 Hz. Its 0.25 mH inductance limits the rate of current rise (di/dt) from the drive output, protecting the motor windings and cable insulation from voltage spikes caused by long cable runs or fast-switching IGBTs. The IP00 open-chassis design means it mounts inside a panel or enclosure that provides the physical and environmental protection — it is not a standalone outdoor device.
The 17 A maximum is the thermal current rating at 40 °C ambient (per the datasheet conditions). If your drive output is rated for 16 A continuous, this reactor is correctly sized; if the drive is rated for 20 A, you need a larger reactor. The 8 000 Hz rated frequency matches the typical switching frequency of many modern PWM drives — confirm your drive's carrier frequency does not exceed this value, or the core may saturate and overheat. Total power loss sums to 53 W (33 W coil + 20 W iron core), which must be dissipated inside the enclosure; factor that into your panel thermal budget.
Integration notes
Dimensions are 0.17 m wide × 0.15 m high × 0.12 m deep. Thermal class B per IEC 60085 means the insulation system is rated for a maximum hot-spot temperature of 130 °C, which is typical for general-purpose reactors in industrial drives. Mounting is inside a panel; the IP00 protection class means no ingress protection on its own, so the enclosure must provide the required IP rating for the environment.
