What it is and what it does
The Siemens 4EP3800-4DS00 is a 3-phase commutating choke (line reactor) for converter applications, rated at 500V AC with a continuous current of 36A and a peak of 50A. The 0.73 mH inductance limits current rise and harmonics on the line side of a variable-frequency drive or DC drive converter, protecting both the rectifier and the upstream supply. The 4% relative inductive voltage drop at rated current and frequency is the design target for most standard drive applications — it's the value the drive manufacturer assumed when sizing the DC bus.
Mounting and integration
IP00 means no enclosure — this choke is intended for mounting inside a panel or cabinet, not in a washdown or outdoor location. The 0.178m width, 0.153m height, and 0.12m depth footprint fits a standard backplate; screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept field wiring directly. Thermal class B insulation (130°C) per IEC 60085 means the winding can run hot without degrading the varnish — a 60W coil loss plus 15.1W iron loss at 40°C ambient is the heat you need to vent. Keep the choke away from temperature-sensitive PLCs or terminal blocks in the same enclosure.
