What It Is and What It Does
The Siemens 4EP4002-2DS00 is a 3-phase commutating choke (line reactor) designed for converter (drive) applications. It limits current rise and harmonics on the line side of a variable-frequency drive or DC drive, protecting the converter's input rectifier and smoothing the DC bus. The 0.52 mH inductance at 71 A maximum (63.9 A rated continuous) and 500 V AC operating voltage is sized for medium-power drives in the 30–50 kW range, depending on the drive's DC-link configuration.
Key Ratings and What They Mean for Fit
The 71 A maximum current (Ithmax) at 50 Hz is the thermal limit under worst-case conditions — the choke can handle this continuously without exceeding the Class B (130 °C) insulation system. The 63.9 A rated current (ILN) is the nominal design point for voltage drop calculations. The 4 % relative inductive voltage drop (Uk) at rated current and frequency means the choke will drop about 20 V at 500 V / 63.9 A — a standard value for most drive line reactors. The 87 A DC rating confirms it can also serve in DC-link applications, though the primary role is AC line-side commutation.
Integration and Mounting
IP00 means no enclosure — this choke is intended for installation inside a panel or cabinet where it is protected from dust and moisture. The flat-type terminals (flat connector) accept busbar or cable lugs; plan for M8 or M10 ring terminals depending on your lug size. Dimensions are 0.219 m wide × 0.179 m high × 0.143 m deep — about the footprint of a small shoe box. Mounting is via the baseplate; no DIN-rail clip is provided. The 80 W coil loss plus 34 W iron core loss (114 W total) must be considered in your panel thermal budget — allow ventilation around the choke or derate ambient if the cabinet is sealed.
