Commutating choke for converter duty
It carries a rated operating voltage of 500V AC at 50 Hz and a maximum AC current of 160A, with a peak current capability of 200A. The 0.18 mH inductance and 4% relative inductive voltage drop shape the current rise rate for the converter's semiconductors, limiting di/dt and reducing harmonic distortion on the line side.
The 160A AC maximum current and 144A AC operational current define the continuous thermal capacity under rated conditions at 40°C ambient. The 196A DC rated value is the equivalent DC current the choke can handle — relevant if the converter front end draws a DC-link current with a similar RMS heating effect. The 4% voltage drop at rated current and frequency is the impedance the choke presents; this is the figure used to calculate fault-current limiting and harmonic attenuation in the drive designer's model. IP00 means the choke has no enclosure — it is an open-frame component intended for installation inside a cabinet that provides the environmental seal. The Class H insulation system per IEC 60085 allows a 180°C hot-spot temperature, which gives thermal headroom in a crowded panel with other heat sources. Total power loss is 248W (174W coil + 74W iron core) — this heat must be evacuated by the cabinet ventilation or cooling system.
Dimensions are 0.27m wide by 0.248m high by 0.187m deep. The main circuit connection uses flat-type terminals — expect bus-bar or crimp-lug terminations rather than cage clamps. The choke is designed for bolting onto a mounting plate inside the converter cabinet; the open-frame construction (IP00) requires separation from live buswork per the clearance distances in the installation standard.
The lifecycle stage is recorded as mature, indicating the product is in a stable phase of its production run — not newly introduced and not flagged for discontinuation.
