Mains choke for variable-frequency drives
The Siemens 4EU3652-5UC00-0AA0 is a three-phase mains choke (Netzdrossel f. FU) designed to sit between the supply and a variable-frequency drive, smoothing line harmonics and limiting inrush current. Rated at 450 A continuous with a 500 A maximum, it handles the full motor current of large drives on 400 V or 480 V AC lines at 50/60 Hz.
The 450 A rated current and 500 A maximum tell you this choke is sized for a drive with a nominal input current around 450 A — typically a 250–315 kW drive on 400 V, or a 355–400 kW drive on 480 V, depending on the drive's power factor and efficiency. The 0.000056 H inductance (56 µH) at 50/60 Hz is the value that produces the 4 % voltage drop; if your drive manufacturer specifies a different impedance (e.g., 3 % or 5 %), this choke won't match. The IP00 enclosure means it's open-frame — mount inside a cabinet with proper clearance; no washdown or outdoor use. Thermal class H (180 °C insulation) gives headroom for the 287 W coil loss plus 170 W iron loss at rated load.
Physical integration
Dimensions: 0.35 m wide, 0.321 m tall, 0.237 m deep. That's a substantial footprint — about the size of a small suitcase. The flat-type terminals for the main circuit accept busbar or large cable lugs; plan for at least M10 or 3/8" bolt connections. IP00 means no finger-safe enclosure — the choke must be mounted inside a locked or tool-accessible cabinet with clearance to adjacent metalwork for cooling.
