What this 5SJ3 MCB is and what it does
The Siemens 5SJ3140-7 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker — one pole, C-curve, rated 40 A at 230/400 V AC with a 4.5 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. The C characteristic means it trips on short-circuit at 5 to 10 times rated current, so it's sized for moderate inrush loads like small motor starters or lighting banks where the start-up spike won't nuisance-trip a B-curve. The 40 A rating and 4.5 kA SCCR cover most residential and light commercial sub-distribution boards; overvoltage category 3 tells you it's designed for fixed-installation downstream of the main panel, not for plug-in portable gear.
Panel fit and mounting
Snaps onto standard 35 mm DIN rail. The 70 mm installation depth fits flush in most enclosure backplates. Mounting position is unrestricted — any orientation works, which simplifies layout in tight gland-plate areas. IP20 with connected conductors means the terminals are finger-safe once wired, but the breaker itself is not sealed against dust or moisture; keep it inside a rated enclosure.
