What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SJ4150-6HG40 is a 1-pole miniature circuit breaker from the SENTRON 5SJ4 series, rated 50 A at 400 V AC with a B tripping characteristic. It breaks fault currents up to 10 kA per EN 60898 for residential/commercial branch circuits, and up to 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 for industrial panel applications — the higher figure is the one that governs when this breaker sits inside a switchboard with a known prospective fault level. On DC circuits it is rated 60 V maximum, so it can serve as a 1-pole DC branch protector for control power supplies or small DC loads — but only where the system voltage stays under that ceiling. The B-curve trips between 3 and 5 times rated current, making it a good fit for resistive or general-purpose loads where inrush is modest; not ideal for motor-starting or transformer primary protection, where a C or D curve would be the usual choice.
Mounting and panel fit
IP20 with conductors connected; IP40 in the handle range. That means it is protected against solid objects >12.5 mm (finger-safe) in normal operation, but not against dust ingress or water. Suitable for clean, dry indoor panels — not for washdown or outdoor enclosures without a higher-rated outer cabinet.
Environmental and compliance
Rated for ambient temperatures -25 to +55 °C and storage from -40 to +75 °C. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction, which matters for clean-room or sensitive electronics environments where outgassing can cause contact corrosion or optical haze. Vibration resistance tested at 50 m/s² over 25–150 Hz and 60 m/s² at 35 Hz for 4 seconds — typical for industrial machinery mounted on a panel wall. Overvoltage category 3 per IEC 60664, meaning it is designed for fixed installations where transient overvoltages are controlled by the upstream distribution — standard for a sub-distribution board or final branch circuit.
