Panel fit and ratings
The Siemens 5SJ4160-6HG40 is a single-pole miniature circuit breaker from the SENTRON 5SJ4 series, rated 60 A with a B-curve trip characteristic. It occupies one 18 mm modular width on DIN rail and has a depth of 70 mm – a standard envelope for control cabinet and distribution board layouts. The B-curve trips between 3 and 5 times rated current, making it suited for resistive and lightly inductive loads like lighting, small motors, and control transformers. Rated breaking capacity: 15 kA and 10 kA. Rated 400 V AC at 50 Hz and up to 60 V DC.
Environmental and mechanical resilience
The breaker is sealable, which allows locking the cover to prevent unauthorized access in safety-critical circuits – a common requirement in industrial machine disconnect panels. It is halogen-free and silicon-free, suitable for environments where outgassing or contamination can affect nearby electronics (e.g., clean rooms or medical equipment). IP20 with connected conductors, IP40 in the handle area; overvoltage category III and pollution degree 3 reflect industrial-grade robustness. Ambient temperature range is -40 °C to 75 °C, with vibration resistance specified at 50 m/s² up to 150 Hz. The design accepts copper conductors with a tightening torque of 3.5 Nm (31 lb·in) – compatible with typical 60/75 °C rated wire. Combined (screw + clamp) terminals on both top and bottom simplify wiring and reduce the number of terminal types on the panel.
