What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SJ4213-8HG42 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a D tripping characteristic, designed to protect branch circuits against overloads and short circuits. Two poles, rated 13 A at AC (30–40 °C ambient), and also rated for DC circuits up to 60 V. The D-curve means it tolerates high inrush currents — typical for motor, transformer, or lighting ballast loads — without nuisance tripping. Mounts on standard DIN rail, occupies 2 modular width units (36 mm), and can be installed in any position.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 13 A rating holds flat from 30 °C to 40 °C; above that it derates to 12.6 A at 45 °C, 12.2 A at 50 °C, 11.8 A at 55 °C, and 11.4 A at 60 °C. If your panel ambient runs above 40 °C, size the load to the derated value, not the nameplate. The 60 V DC maximum rating covers common control-voltage rails (24 V, 48 V) and some lower DC distribution — but not 125 V DC telecom plants. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category 3 suit industrial control panels where conductive dust or condensation is possible. The IP20 body (IP40 in the handle area) means it's protected against finger contact but not washdown — keep it inside the enclosure.
