What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SJ4250-8HG41 is a 2-pole miniature circuit breaker from the SENTRON 5SJ4 series, designed for branch-circuit overcurrent protection in industrial control panels. Its D tripping characteristic (10–20× In magnetic trip) handles high inrush loads like motor starters, transformers, and welding equipment without nuisance tripping on startup. Rated 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898 and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 at 400 V AC, it clears faults up to those levels without cascading upstream. The 2-pole design switches both phase conductors; the neutral is not switched (no neutral pole).
Where it goes and what the ratings mean
Rated for pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III, so it's suited for fixed installations inside enclosures where conductive contamination is possible — typical for machine control panels and switchgear assemblies. The IP20 rating (IP40 in the handle area with conductors connected) means it lives inside a cabinet, not exposed to washdown. Ambient range from -40 °C to +75 °C covers most indoor and outdoor cabinet environments; the 95% humidity limit means no condensation concerns in unheated enclosures. Vibration resistance to 50 m/s² at 25–150 Hz and 60 m/s² at 35 Hz (4 s) keeps it functional on machinery with moderate vibration. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction matters for environments where outgassing could contaminate sensitive contacts or optics — clean-room adjacent or sealed relay cabinets. Sealable design allows the installer to lock the handle position with a padlock for lockout/tagout.
