What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SJ6563-6 is a SENTRON 5SJ6 miniature circuit breaker — 1P+N poles, B-curve trip characteristic, rated 63 A at 240 V AC with a 6 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898 (also 6 kA per IEC 60947-2). It also carries a 60 V DC maximum rating, so it can protect DC control circuits fed from the same panel. The B curve means it trips between 3 and 5 times rated current — standard for resistive and general-purpose loads where you want fast clearing of moderate overloads without nuisance trips from inrush.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 63 A rating on a single-pole+N breaker covers high-current branch circuits — think large resistive heaters, lighting banks, or distribution subfeeds where you need overcurrent protection on the live conductor with a switched neutral. The 6 kA breaking capacity matches typical residential and light commercial fault levels; if your available fault current exceeds that, you need an upstream current-limiting device. Energy limiting class 3 means it restricts let-through energy well, so downstream components see less stress during a short.
Where it goes in the panel
Mounts on DIN rail in any position — no derating for upside-down or sideways installation. Occupies 2 width units (36 mm) at 70 mm installation depth. IP20 with conductors connected, so it belongs inside a closed enclosure, not exposed to washdown. Touch protection is built in. The 1P+N design switches the neutral internally; verify your distribution scheme expects a switched neutral before wiring.
