Siemens SENTRON 5SL1116-6MB — 1-pole B-curve MCB, 16 A, 3 kA
The Siemens 5SL1116-6MB is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a single pole, B tripping characteristic, and a 16 A rated current. It interrupts faults up to 3 kA per IEC 60947-2 at 230/400 V AC, making it a standard overcurrent protector for residential and light commercial final circuits — lighting, socket outlets, and small appliance loads. The B-curve trips between 3 and 5 times rated current, so it clears inrush from resistive loads without nuisance tripping, but it is not intended for motor or transformer starting peaks (use C or D curve for those). Rated for 16 A at 30 °C ambient, the breaker occupies one modular width (18 mm) on a DIN rail, with an installation depth of 70 mm and overall depth of 76 mm. The IP20 enclosure (with connected conductors) is suitable for dry indoor panels; the sealable design allows the installer to lock the toggle position after commissioning, preventing unauthorised reset or isolation.
Panel fit and ratings
The breaker snaps onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail in any mounting position (horizontal, vertical, or flat). At 18 mm wide (1 MW), it fits a single-pole slot in a distribution board. The 70 mm installation depth leaves clearance behind the panel door for wiring and busbar connections. Pollution degree 2 and overvoltage category III cover fixed installations inside buildings — typical for a residential consumer unit or a small commercial sub-distribution board. Power dissipation is 1.9 W per pole at rated current in hot operating state, which matters for thermal derating when multiple breakers are ganged in a small enclosure. The mechanical service life is rated at 4 000 operating cycles — adequate for a protection device that operates infrequently, but not intended for frequent switching duty (use a contactor or switch-disconnector for that role).
