What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL1206-7MB is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) — a 2-pole, C-curve unit rated at 6 A. It protects branch circuits in residential and light commercial infrastructure against overcurrent and short-circuit faults. The C-curve characteristic means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, so it handles moderate inrush from small motors, transformers, or capacitive loads without nuisance tripping — the standard choice for general-purpose lighting and socket-outlet circuits. Its breaking capacity is 3 kA per IEC 60947-2, which covers most residential and light commercial service-entrance fault levels in 230/400 V networks. The 2-pole design (2P) switches both line conductors, giving full disconnection on a fault.
Panel fit and integration
The 5SL1206-7MB occupies 2 modular width units (MW) on a standard DIN rail — 36 mm wide, 76 mm deep, 90 mm tall. Installation depth is 70 mm, leaving clearance behind the DIN rail for wiring. Mounting position is any, so it fits vertical or horizontal panel layouts. IP20 with connected conductors means it is protected against finger contact but not water ingress — standard for enclosed distribution boards. The housing is halogen-free and silicon-free, meeting material restrictions for clean-room or transit-vehicle installations. Overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2 suit it for fixed installations downstream of the utility meter, not for outdoor or wet locations.
Lifecycle and sourcing
For a BOM freeze or critical-spare hold, the 5SL1206-7MB is sourced and quoted to order against an RFQ. Availability and current pricing are confirmed at quote time.
