What this 4-pole C-curve MCB covers
The Siemens 5SL3416-7MB is a 4-pole miniature circuit breaker (MCB) from the SENTRON 5SL3 family, rated 16 A with a C tripping characteristic. That C-curve means it trips at 5 to 10 times rated current — standard for motor and lighting circuits where inrush is moderate, not for pure resistive loads or high-surge transformers. Breaking capacity is 4.5 kA per both EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2, so it handles fault currents up to that level without welding contacts or failing to clear. Rated voltage is 400 V AC, with a maximum of 440 V in multi-phase operation. The 4-pole design switches all three phases plus neutral (though neutral is not switched internally — it's a 4-pole overcurrent-protected device, not a switched-neutral MCB).
Panel fit and wiring
Mounts on DIN rail in any position — no derating needed for horizontal or vertical orientation. Occupies 4 width units (72 mm wide), 90 mm tall, 76 mm deep, with an installation depth of 70 mm. Terminals accept solid or stranded copper from 0.75 mm² up to 25 mm², tightened to 2.5–3 N·m. That covers most panel wiring from control circuits up to feeder-size conductors. IP20 with conductors connected — fine inside a closed panel, not for wet or dusty environments. Sealable cover is standard, so a lockout/tagout program can secure the toggle.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Current production — no end-of-life notice. The 5SL3416-7MB is a standard catalog item in the SENTRON line, specified in residential and light commercial infrastructure panels.
