What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL4205-7RC is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker — 2-pole, C-curve, rated 0.5 A at 415 V AC with a 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. That C characteristic means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, so it's sized for general-purpose branch circuits with moderate inrush — think small lighting groups, control transformers, or resistive loads where you don't want nuisance trips from a motor start but still need fast fault clearing. The 10 kA SCCR at 415 V AC means it safely interrupts a hard fault at that level without welding contacts or cascading upstream.
Panel fit and mounting
Single modular-width unit (18 mm) on standard DIN rail. Depth is 76 mm, height 90 mm — it sits flush with adjacent SENTRON breakers and accessories. Mounting position is unrestricted, so it works in vertical, horizontal, or upside-down busbar arrangements. IP20 with connected conductors; touch protection built in. Rated for pollution degree 2 and overvoltage category III, which is the usual spec for fixed-installation distribution boards inside a building envelope.
Environmental and compliance
Halogen-free and silicon-free construction — relevant for high-reliability or clean-room installations where outgassing matters. Operating temperature range from -40 °C to 75 °C, so it's fine in unheated enclosures or near roof-level gear. Sealable (can be locked out with a standard padlock hasp). Suitability listed for residential buildings and infrastructure — that's the intended application domain per the manufacturer.
