D-curve and derating — the real selection numbers

The D-curve (5-10× In magnetic trip) is designed for loads with a high starting surge. At 0.5 A, that magnetic pickup sits between 2.5 A and 5 A — enough to pass a motor inrush but still fast on a hard short.
