What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SL4416-7 is a 4-pole miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a C-tripping characteristic, rated 16 A at 400 V AC. It breaks fault currents up to 10 kA per EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2 — enough for most residential and light commercial distribution boards. The C-curve means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, so it handles motor inrush and transformer energization without nuisance trips while still clearing short circuits fast.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
Rated 16 A at 30 °C ambient, but the thermal trip derates with temperature: 15.15 A at 40 °C, 14.72 A at 45 °C, 13.79 A at 55 °C. If the panel runs hot, factor that into the load — a 16 A breaker on a 55 °C bus can only carry about 13.8 A continuously. The 10 kA breaking capacity at 400 V AC is the same under both EN 60898 (domestic standard) and IEC 60947-2 (industrial standard), so it's accepted in both worlds.
Mounting and integration
Snaps onto a DIN rail in any mounting position. Four modular width units (72 mm wide) — standard 18 mm per pole. Depth is 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm. IP20 with connected conductors, so it's for enclosed distribution boards, not washdown areas. Sealable (tamper-evident cover available) and accepts supplementary devices (auxiliary contacts, shunt trips, alarm switches) via the product extension interface.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Current production — no end-of-life notice on record. The 5SL4416-7 is a standard catalog item in the Siemens SENTRON family. For a line-down replacement or a BOM fill, this part is sourced and quoted to order against an RFQ through independent distribution; availability and current pricing are confirmed at quote time.
