What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SL4416-7RC is a 4-pole miniature circuit breaker with a C tripping characteristic, rated 16 A at 415 V AC and 10 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. That 10 kA rating means it can safely interrupt a fault current up to 10,000 A without welding its contacts or failing catastrophically — the standard for residential and light commercial distribution boards where the prospective short-circuit current stays under that threshold. The C-curve trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, so it handles motor inrush and transformer energization without nuisance trips while still clearing hard faults fast. Rated for 50/60 Hz supply, it fits standard mains-frequency panels across Europe and most of Asia.
Panel fit and mounting
Snaps onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail — one modular width unit (18 mm wide) per pole, so this 4-pole breaker occupies 4 x 18 mm = 72 mm of rail space. Depth is 76 mm (70 mm behind the panel face), height 90 mm. Mounting position is unrestricted; the breaker works upright, sideways, or inverted. IP20 with connected conductors — fine inside a closed panel, not for wet or dusty environments. Sealable terminals let you lock the cover after commissioning to prevent tampering.
