What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL4515-7 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) — a 1P+N unit rated 1.6 A at 230 V AC, with a C tripping characteristic and a 10 kA breaking capacity certified to both EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2. The C-curve means it trips between 5× and 10× rated current (8 A to 16 A), which suits it for mixed resistive and moderate-inductive loads in residential and light commercial distribution boards. The 1P+N configuration switches the phase and switches the neutral, so it provides overcurrent protection on the line and isolates the neutral when the breaker is off — a common requirement for single-phase final circuits in many European and Asian panel standards.
Panel fit and mounting
The breaker occupies 2 modular width units (36 mm) on a DIN rail. Depth is 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm. Mounting position is any, so it can be installed vertically, horizontally, or flat — useful for tight enclosures. The IP20 rating (with connected conductors) means it is protected against finger contact but not against moisture; it belongs inside a distribution board or enclosure, not in a washdown zone. The sealable feature allows a lead seal or lockout tag to be fitted, which is often required for utility-metered circuits or safety isolation.
Environmental and compliance
Rated for ambient temperatures from -40 °C to +75 °C, with derated current values above 30 °C: 1.54 A at 40 °C, 1.5 A at 45 °C, 1.43 A at 55 °C (–). Halogen-free and silicon-free construction reduces toxic smoke and corrosive outgassing in a fire — a consideration for public buildings and data-center sub-distribution. Overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2 confirm it is rated for fixed-installation mains supply with normal levels of non-conductive dust.
