What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL5116-7CC is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) — a 1-pole, C16 unit rated for 125 V DC with a 10 kA breaking capacity. The C characteristic means it trips between 5 and 10 times rated current, so it handles moderate inrush from motor starters or lighting ballasts without nuisance tripping, but still clears a hard short fast. The 10 kA interrupting rating at 125 V DC tells you it can safely break a fault up to that level on a DC bus — common in telecom, solar combiner boxes, or control power supplies — without welding the contacts or cascading upstream.
DIN-rail fit and panel integration
At 18 mm wide (one modular unit), it snaps onto standard DIN rail and takes up a single slot in a distribution board or enclosure. Depth is 76 mm, installation depth 70 mm — that's shallow enough for most 100 mm deep enclosures. Mounting position is any, so it works upright, sideways, or even upside-down in a tight gland plate layout. IP20 with connected conductors means it's protected against finger contact once wired, but it's not sealed for washdown — keep it inside a panel, not on the machine frame.
Environmental range and materials
Rated for ambient temperatures from -40 °C to 75 °C, so it's fine in unheated substations or hot switchgear rooms. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction — no corrosive off-gassing in a fire, and no silicone contamination near bonding or coating lines. Overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2, which is the standard for fixed-installation distribution panels in residential and light commercial infrastructure.
