The Siemens 5SL6008-7 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) rated 8 A at AC with a C tripping characteristic and a 6 kA breaking capacity per EN 60898. It occupies one modular unit (18 mm wide) on standard DIN rail, making it a direct fit for residential and infrastructure distribution boards where branch-circuit overcurrent protection is needed for general-purpose loads like lighting, socket outlets, and small appliances.
Ratings and derating
At 30 °C ambient the breaker carries its full 8 A rating. At 40 °C it derates to 7.52 A, at 50 °C to 7 A, and at 60 °C to 6.45 A. If the panel runs warm — near a transformer or in a crowded enclosure — the effective trip point shifts; size the upstream load against the derated figure at your expected ambient, not the 30 °C nameplate. The C characteristic means the magnetic trip fires at 5 to 10 times rated current — typical for circuits with moderate inrush from small motors or capacitive loads. The 6 kA breaking capacity at 250 V AC per EN 60898 covers most residential and light-commercial fault levels; verify the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point stays under that limit.
Mounting and integration
Snaps onto standard DIN rail (EN 60715) in any mounting position. Depth is 76 mm, width 18 mm, height 90 mm; the required installation depth behind the panel is 70 mm. One modular-width unit leaves adjacent slots free for other SENTRON devices. The top and bottom terminals are not combined — each pole terminates independently. Touch protection is built in, and the breaker is sealable for tamper-proofing after commissioning. Rated for overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2, which covers fixed-installation distribution boards. IP20 with connected conductors — suitable for enclosed panels, not for washdown or outdoor exposure.
